We do not know the official variety name of our small red dahlia, so we call it after the friends we got her from; Green Gorge Farm.
Red is not the trendy color for dahlias right now in the floristry world, however non of my other dahlias stick out so beautifully and bold in the landscape as this one. When we pull into our farm, the first thing that draws the eye is the little pocket of Red Gorge-ous blooms. If you want a dahlia for your yard/landscape I can not recommend this one enough. Really adds pop and prettiness to the landscape and is easy to grow/hardy/sturdy. No need for supports like other varieties. It also has the claim-to-fame in being the only variety Green Gorge Farm or us have grown that gophers don't touch! Who wouldn't want the one gopher proof dahlia!
On the other hand, I actually grow her for cutting. She is a very usable shape and size. Blooms very early in the dahlia season and very productive through to the frosts. Bright valentines day red adds drama and romance to any arrangement. While it's a formal decorative, plays like a ball in all regards (how it fits into bouquets and holds up to weather). I cant make enough market bouquets in the fall with her as one of the main stars (see photos). Those fly first at our markets.
